We sometimes go here when we are visiting in Beaver, PA. Usually we meet friends here for a drink. The seating is not all that comfortable but the atmosphere is nice. I love to go here so I can order the jalepeno pretzel... it is a weakness of mine. I have also tried the calzones and stuffed mushrooms, which are also good.

Been here a few times and no complaints at all. Food is awesome! Ravioli are my favorite. Can't wait to try the pizza

Very convenient and nice place to eat. We had 3 lunches there while on business. 2/3 of the meals were quite good, the other was acceptable. According to a fellow diner, the Wedding Soup rivaled his mother's. Worth checking out.

Oh Sal's, I'm glad I've found you! Traveling outside the Pittsburgh area, the boyfriend and I managed to come back here twice during our short stay. Sal's has a slight nostalgic feel with darker colors inside and the pictures of actresses from that old Hollywood era. The servers here are friendly, and you can see they help each other out. The menu is extensive and some of the appetizers would be excellent choices as a meal alone. The Godfather had banana peppers stuffed with pork, with shrimps and scallops in a flavorful tomato sauce on top. This was a hearty appetizer. The beans-n-greens didn't sound that appealing but this again was another hearty appetizer. Sauteed escarole, white beans and Italian sausage. Delicious! If you're a veal lover, they do not have any veal dishes here. Lots of pasta, calzones, pizza, salads, and burgers, sandwiches. I ordered the Vegetarian Calzone with ham added to it. This calzone was HUGE. Definitely did not eat it in one sitting. I ate my calzone with a side of marinara. (ask for some garlic powder, it tastes great in the marinara.) The boyfriend ordered the Chicken Oscar. Chicken, crab meat, alfredo sauce, tomato sauce, and angel hair. It was huge. After he ate it all, he asked our server if he won a t-shirt for finishing it. Ha! The dish was good but heavy. The next time I came back, I was determined to get a pizza. I ordered the Shrimp Scampi pizza. It was tasty, my only complaint is that I wished it had more broccoli on it. But then again, I just like lots of veggies. Although I didn't order any of the salads here, I could see they were quite large. The only thing I wasn't so fond of, were the breadsticks. It tasted ok and the dipping oil was mediocre for me. Aside from that, everything else I ate was really enjoyable. As far as desserts go, tiramisu was pretty good. Also another heavy item. I opted for a sundae with chocolate AND caramel the second time. Wild child, I know. I had great service each time I've been to Sal's and never left hungry!

I've eaten at Sal's twice. The first time was unremarkable as everything was OK, nothing to rave about. The second time, I ordered soup and a salad. The wedding soup was horrible. Way too salty. I could not eat it and I am typically not picky. The salad was good but again, unremarkable. I will not be going back as I would rather spend my $$$ somewhere else.

Nice restauraunt. Good food. Big Pittsburgh style salads. Gets pretty busy on weekend nights. A must-try is the chicken and sausage Cajun pasta. I'm salivating just thinking about it. Cajun Alfredo aver linguini.

They are ok. They just finished remodeling so I should so see how they are now. I remember the atmosphere needed a lot of improvement the last time I was there. Then again, it's a typical dive restaurant and bar in western PA. Maybe not that bad. I guess I can stretch to 3.5 starts.

My husband decided he wanted to venture to Sal's for his birthday dinner. We met our son and daughter there on Friday night. Had a great frozen drink and beer at the bar while we waited for a table. We only had to wait about 15 minutes for our table. Our server met us very pleasantly and quickly for how busy they were. The manager happened to pop in behind her to make sure she was telling us the specials, which she did very well. We ate banana peppers as an appetizer, they were a bit hot but delicious. All four of us had different pasta meals: chicken parm, cajun chicken and sausage, a spicy shrimp, and I had the special seafood. Oh my goodness, everything was delicious! We enjoyed the staff, very personable and all helped each other. The food was as wonderful as we remember. Christina was our server and she made sure everything was extra special and awesome for us. Thanks for a great birthday dinner for my husband. We will be back!

Great calzones. When my family comes from out of town, they like to eat at Sal's. This is where the locals eat.

Great food. Friendly wait staff. There are men chewing tobacco and spitting in a cup sitting at the bar way too often. Disgusting !!!!

Awesome food and great service. I have been coming here for years and the good is always fresh and it always tastes great. Its made fresh and with great ingredients. The service is excellent and the staff is always friendly and fast. I would recommend Sal's to anyone that is in the Chippewa area.

The food is average, prices are above average, and the staff is lazy and slow. We asked several times for drink or water for our young daughter and it took 15 minutes. The waitress never cleared the table as well between appetizers and the entrée. When my wife asked for the table to be clear an attitude was given. Maybe this was just one bad experience with one bad waitress but we aren't going back.

Consistently good food. Quick attentive service. Current waitresses are much more efficient that the worn out cheerleaders that used to ignore you and steal tips when bar tending.

try "the godfather" appetizer (I get it as my meal) or 'the boss' calzone. Also, a good casual place to meet friends and have a drink.

One of my favorite italian restaurants. Their baked penne pasta is the best! I always get a side salad with their homemade ranch dressing which is also incredible! They have a buffalo chicken strip appetizer that is a little spicy but delicious along with their mozzarella sticks and quesadillas. Their calzones are also one of the best i've had. You can make your own or pick from a variety. They have a nice bar area with high tables and also a nice dining room with booths and tables. This is a nice place for lunch or dinner. The lunch menu is a little smaller, but if you want something from the dinner menu they are always willing to accommodate that.

Calzones and pizzas are amazing. The service is always amazing. Ask if Suzie is working! She is a great server. Authentic Italian food cooked to order. I frequent this establishment regularly. I would recommended it for lunch and dinner! What are you waiting for?!

Excellent pizza and calzones, although their menu is quite extensive. For appetizers I recommend the Godfather or their stuffed peppers. Staff is extremely attentive. Good value for the dollar.

Eat Here. In case you only read one line of this review, I wanted to be sure you got the message. We had chosen to skip breakfast this morning and get a good lunch on our shopping trip to Pittsburgh. I had been down the PA 51 corridor in Chippewa Township countless times heading to the airport. I'd never seen Sal's. Thankfully, the wife spied it on the way down today. On entry you are faced with a choice, bar or dining room. We chose the bar to get the outdoor, patio seating. It was after 1PM on a 4th of July Friday, so there was only one table occupied in the bar and no one on the patio. The place was very nicely decorated and furnished, and was very clean. We barely chose our table when I figured it a good idea to let the bartender know we were out there. On reentry, I was met near the door by the bartender. I indicated that I was coming in to make sure she knew we were there, to which she said, I'm on my way, it's my job to notice. The stars started to add up. Lisa's service never dropped from that impressive start. I identified as a first-timer and asked for recommendations. She immediately pointed to the Calzones (a personal fav) and pizza. I noticed on the way in that the other party in the bar was noshing on a pizza. We both jumped on a Calzone. I got a rather odd version, the Buffalo Chicken. It was simple, chicken in warm, but not hot Buffalo Wings sauce, mozzarella and cheddar cheese, and yellow pepper strips. It came with a side of either Bleu Cheese or Ranch dressing yelp.com/biz_photos/FfG4… . The worst thing I can say about it is that the dough was a little thick on the ends. The crust was so very good and the innards were excellent. The wife got "The Boss". It was the Lisa's recommendation and it was excellent too. It came with a side of red sauce. Prices were very reasonable, the Calzones were $8 and the drafts were $2.25. The atmosphere was just so casual and inviting. It was a great place to meet friends, go for a casual date or catch a game. We threw back a couple of draft Yuenglings to complete a perfect lunch. The only visitor we had on the deck other than Lisa was Sal himself. When I told Lisa that I was going to write them up on Yelp, she said she'd tell Sal. What a nice guy. He only spent a few minutes, but it was clear that he was involved in the business...he was wearing an apron. He takes pride in his place, and his Calzones and seems to love his job. He had to get back into the kitchen because as we left the dinner crowd was already filling the place. Before he walked away, he said tell all your friends...well Sal, here you go, 21 Million+ Yelpers ( facebook.com/yelp?ref=nf… ) And when you go (cuz you have to if you're anywhere near this place) ask for Sal and tell him Bill sent ya.

A Chippewa mainstay. Food is consistently good, as is the service. The pizza is phenomenal, NY-style pie, and you can get either red or white. Very good bar, always have a few excellent draft choices. The building is split up evenly between the bar and less casual "restaurant" section ... it took us a few visits before we realized that seating is generally more available on the bar side, and that area is just as good for kids (and slightly less claustrophobic, although generally the place is packed). Expect to wait on Friday and Saturday nights - it's always overcrowded then. We do takeout here a lot and just avoid the crowd. A hidden gem for lunch, due to lunch-size portions of all the faves and much smaller crowds.

Great alternative to the Applebee's & Eat n Park chains nearby. The food is not spectacular, but it's very good. The servers are always very helpful and attentive. It may not be on our family's "favorites" list, however we keep it in the rotation :)

Sal's has the best calzones I have ever tasted, and I have been to Italy. I always get the same thing every time I go, I get a calzone with mozzarella, ricotta, and chicken with a side of homemade ranch dressing. It is to die for!! The prices are good too!! It is a must when you are in the area :-)

Meh. As far as Italian food is concerned...it's mediocre at best. On Thursday nights the restaurant turns into a bar with drink specials on all the well booze and beers for the college kids from Geneva College, CCBC, and Penn State Beaver to enjoy. It's a decent place, I guess. Not crazy about it but go there from time to time. You should too.

The ladyfriend broke The Cosmic Trickster's spell temporarily the other night by bringing me to this restaurant she had been wanting me to try. I almost ordered a pizza. Then I almost went for a burger. The wonderfully nebby waitress went "What's with this?" as she mimicked my hand gesture. Hey, lots of people talk with their hands, y'know? I was trying to explain how I was trying to bust the pizza/burger habit. I did that by ordering the Meatball Hoagie. If an Italian restaurant can make a good meatball, they pass muster. And pass muster they did. Two corpulent, succulent meatballs adorned with a nicely acerbic sauce and blissful cheese (it was either provolone or mozzarella) fill each half of the sub, which is held together with a terrific, flaky, crispy, sublimely baked bread. This is the kind of meatball hoagie I fell in love with 25 years ago when I had my first. *sob* The sandwich came with fries that were more than acceptable. I tried my date's Baked Stuffed Shrimp. The stuffing is crabmeat, the cheese that tops it is mozzarella, the flavor is exceptional. The shrimp is so good, so flawlessly cooked, that you want to pick up the shrimp and eat it. I picked that for her since she was being indecisive that evening. We shared a sizeable cannoli for our after-dinner treat since that's currently Sal's Dessert of the Month. I was hesitant since I usually don't like cannoli not made by Kribel's Bakery, but this was actually quite good in its own right. The filling almost tasted like ice cream and was drizzled with chocolate syrup and powdered sugar. How can I forget the poppin' calamari appetizer we had with that equally poppin' marinara sauce? Delizioso! Calamari is another thing I test Italian restaurants on by the way. Go squid! Sal's seems a tad swanky until you're seated for a few minutes and the waitress talks your ear off (which I always welcome), gets gushy since she can tell you're on a date, and you hear the countrified karaoke in the adjacent bar. The kitchen closes at 11PM, so you can thankfully eschew King's and the other all-night chains if you are out this way late in the evening. Cozy. Fun. Try 'em.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
